Bonnie Smith

Bonnie Smith will be starting her 6th year at Churchill High School in San Antonio, TX as the Assistant Choir Director and the AP Music Theory teacher. She graduated in 2009 from Texas State University-San Marcos Magna Cum Laude with a degree in Music Education with an emphasis in voice. As an undergraduate, she achieved the honor of receiving the Undergraduate Excellence in Music Theory award. She currently serves as the baritone section leader with the award-winning chorus A Cappella Unlimited, a chapter of Sweet Adelines International. She also sings baritone with SoundWise!, a Sweet Adelines registered quartet. For the past 5 years, she has held the role of assistant musical director and microphone technician for all of Churchill’s musical productions. Her professional affiliations include Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA), Texas Choral Directors Association (TCDA), and Sweet Adelines International (SAI). She loves teaching at Churchill and enjoys learning how to be a better teacher every day.

Bonnie is excited to be returning for the 3rd year in a row to the Texas State Choir Camp as the Head Female Counselor or affectionately “Camp Mom”. She loves collaborating with the camp counselors and campers alike. She is looking forward to the changes that this years camp offers, and anticipating the lovely sounds that will be made during camp.

Audrey De la Cruz- Camp Administrator


Audrey De la Cruz is the head director at Bush Middle School in San Antonio, Texas.  The prestigious choral tradition at Bush Middle School consistently receives UIL “sweepstakes”, top ratings in state-wide festivals, and, in 2015, the Gentlemen of Bush MS were selected to perform for the Texas Music Educators Association convention. 

Audrey received her Bachelor's Degree in Music Education and graduated summa cum laude with honors from Texas State University in 2010.  While at Texas State, Audrey was Director of Internal Operations and Finance of the statewide collegiate music organization, CTME, and actively participated in the music honor's fraternity, Mu Phi Epsilon, where she served as Vice President, Recording Secretary, and Chorister.  She is honored to give back to her collegiate experience by organizing the Texas State Choir Camp. 

Currently, she is a member of the UIL Sight-reading committee, serves as Region 12 Middle School Chair-Elect, and is affiliated with the Texas Choral Director's Association, Texas Music Educator's Association, and the Texas Music Adjudicators Association.

In her "spare" time, Audrey sings with the San Antonio Chamber Choir, and leads the alto section at First Protestant Church-New Braunfels.  She and her husband, Christian, have a rambunctious toddler named Rose who loves singing Disney songs at the top of her lungs.

Christian De la Cruz- Camp Administrator

Christian De la Cruz is one of the associate choir directors at Reagan High School in San Antonio, TX and the associate minister of music at First Protestant Church, New Braunfels.  Under his direction, his choirs have earned consistent Superior ratings in the UIL Concert & Sightreading Competitions.  Christian graduated summa cum laude from Texas State University with a bachelors in music education and a minor in mathematics.  Side by side the dynamic team of directors and voice teachers at Reagan High School and their feeder middle schools, the choir department has been proud to have the highest number of All-Staters in Texas for the past 6 years. Christian, a former 3 year all-stater himself, recalls finding his passion for choral music during the all-state camp process.  He has been the Tenor section leader for the Texas State Choir Camp for 5 years and has had the privilege of the conducting the Texas State Choir Camp Men’s Choir for 2 years.  He has also served as a head tenor counselor during his time as a college student at Texas State University.  Christian has conducted numerous honor choirs at the region level and has helped to win the top awards at the prestigious Texas Madrigal Festival.  He has also conducted and toured with choirs in Peru, Switzerland, Italy, the United Kingdom, and South Africa.  He sings professionally with the San Antonio Chamber Choir and is a member of TMEA, TCDA, and Mu Phi Epsilon. He is the recipient of the Fine Art’s Presidential Scholarship, the Texas State Music Scholarship, the TMEA Music Education Scholarship, and the Terry Foundation Full Ride Scholarship, with whom he now serves as the youngest inaugural member of the Terry Advisory Board.  He currently resides in San Antonio with his wonderful wife Audrey and his two year old daughter Rose.    

Samuel Parrott- Camp Administrator


Samuel Parrott is starting his third year as Choir Director at AJ Briesemeister Middle School in Seguin ISD. Sam will also be starting his fourth year as the Artistic Director for The Austin Children's Choir. In 2015, Sam premiered a work by Jack Wild's (Composer in Residence for The Austin Children's Choir) entitled "Three Waking Dreams" and conducted a collaborative performance of John Rutter's "Mass of the Children" with The Hill Country Youth Chorus. 

Prior to being Camp Administrator, Sam worked as a camp counselor and media director at the Texas State Choir Camp (Formerly Hill Country Choral Camp) from 2007-2010.

Sam received his Bachelor's degree in Music Studies with an emphasis in Choral Music from Texas State University in 2011 and his Master's degree in Choral Conducting from Texas State University. He has studied conducting under Dr. Jonathan Babcock, Dr. Joey Martin, Dr. Lynn Brinckmeyer, Professor Matthew Oltman, and Dr. Craig Hella Johnson. Sam is beginning his first year as a PhD student in School Improvement at Texas State University.
